Extraction and recycling of mixed waste

Jihlava / Czech Republic

The aim of the project and the solution was to design and supply an extraction and recycling system for mixed waste, which, as a result of the dedusting process, is highly abrasive.

The scope of supply was to include industrial filtration, incorporating the separation of coarse impurities without the use of a cyclone separator.

Industrial extractor hoods, extraction arms and other equipment at dust sources were supplied as part of the recycling technology, rather than as a centralised filtration system. A supplementary solution for cleaning the equipment, which would have been provided by a central vacuum cleaner, has been postponed to a later date for the time being.

As a result, air extraction and filtration are provided by CUMA CARM filters with regeneration via vibration motors, in conjunction with an on-line and off-line regeneration system. The radial extraction fans are located on the clean side of the filter.

Dust removal is handled by a screw conveyor and a rotary feeder. It was not possible to use a transport fan due to high abrasion.

The entire system is designed in accordance with the ATEX standard, specifically within ZONE 20 and outside the zone.

The scope of supply also includes control of the extraction capacity depending on the operation of individual machines, linked to a frequency converter. This results in practical electricity savings of approximately 30–40 per cent.

Heating energy savings are achieved by returning clean, filtered air back into the working environment; the required 15 per cent air replacement is provided naturally.

A flushing function for the ductwork system is standard; I usually opt for time-based control. Residual emissions in the range of 0.1–0.5 mg/Nm³ are well below the requirements of the STANDARDS.

We guarantee a service life of 20,000 operating hours for the filter media; in practice, this is demonstrably exceeded by 50 to 100 per cent.

Our ‘turnkey’ supplies also include

  • a design for in-house use
  • a comprehensive after-sales service following handover
  • agreed warranty periods of 12, 24, 36 and up to 60 months.
