Dust removal from an induction furnace

Třinec / Czech Republic

CIPRES FILTR BRNO s.r.o. has become a subcontractor to Metrostav a.s. for the implementation of dust extraction technology as part of the contract ‘Reconstruction of the melting unit – 2 x 15 t medium-frequency induction furnace at the Grey Cast Iron Foundry I’.

This is a very significant contract in terms of dust extraction from induction melting furnaces.

For dust extraction, we used a CARM GH-type filtration system, equipped with automatic regeneration of the filter media using counter-flow compressed air, with an extraction capacity of Q = 70,000 m³/h.
The filtration system is fitted with an off-line regeneration system for the filter chambers, enabling the filter to operate continuously.

The filtration system is controlled fully automatically in response to the operating status of the furnaces. The control system ensures that the extraction capacity is increased whenever the melting furnace lid is open, so that fume extraction and filtration above the furnace are maintained even whilst a new charge is being loaded into the furnace. The filtration system switches off when the furnaces are idle and switches on automatically when melting begins.

Our scope of supply also included cooling technology for the induction furnaces’ transformers, ventilation of the furnaces’ frequency converter room, a fresh air supply to the control room, and air conditioning for the control room.

Interesting facts:
We are extracting fumes from the largest induction furnaces of all our projects here.
The total installation time for the technology was 85 days, carried out by six installation technicians.
During installation, 210 kg of fasteners and 450 metres of sealing material were used.

In total, we delivered and installed 37 tonnes of material on site.
