Welding shop extraction

Our company began working with Faurecia in 2013 by installing the first extraction system for a welding shop, with an extraction capacity of Q = 80,000 m³/h.  The installed system utilises CARM GH extraction and filtration units for filtration, featuring automatic regeneration of the filter media using counter-flow compressed air. To date, the extraction system has been expanded to a total extraction capacity of Q = 140,000 m³/h.

A key part of the project was the implementation of an extraction capacity control system. The entire hall is divided into twelve extraction zones. For each of the twelve sections, we are able to set and maintain the required extraction capacity without the individual sections affecting one another. We can take individual extraction sections out of operation in line with the operation of the production technology. The control system is managed using vacuum sensors and automatic control dampers. To this day, it remains one of the most interesting extraction control systems for welding shops, fully accommodating the variability in the layout of workstations within the automotive industry.

Points of interest:

• The filter media in the first of the installed filters was only replaced after 23,564 operating hours, as part of preventive maintenance.
• During five years of operation, only two control dampers were replaced.
• Over 3,000 metres of cabling were laid for the automatic control system
• The total filtration area of the CARM GH filters is over 1,286 m²
• Whilst programming the system, the programmer consumed over 10.5 litres of coffee
• Whilst delivering materials, our transport fleet covered over 2,500 km and the installation technicians covered over 8,400 km
• In total, we have installed 6 extraction fans here with a combined power consumption of 210 kW
