Extraction systems for welding shops in the automotive industry

We specialise in extraction systems for welding workstations in the automotive industry. These are specialised extraction systems designed for almost continuous operation, serving robotic workstations, spot welding stations and re-welding stations. Particulate extraction must be highly reliable, as any downtime is unacceptable for the continuity of production processes.

Filtration systems for the automotive industry

For extraction applications in the automotive industry, we utilise our own CARM GH series filtration units. We always design the specific type of filtration unit – its size, filtration area and arrangement of the filtration media – individually for each specific application. We are aware that the filtration equipment will be operating under almost continuous production conditions with minimal downtime. Filtration equipment for the automotive industry is controlled automatically in line with the operation of production lines or individual machines. The filters switch on and off automatically in accordance with the production schedule. We focus on minimising the human factor in the operation of filtration equipment.

Dust extraction from robotic workstations

Welding robots never sleep, never fall ill, and fully robotised welding workstations have no breaks. The extraction system is therefore subjected to high loads without the possibility of a break to allow the filter media to recover. We equip robotic workstations with extraction hoods, or extract fumes from entire robotic cells where appropriate. We fit individual welding workstations with automatic dampers to ensure extraction only takes place whilst the workstation is in operation. We connect individual workstations to the central filtration system via a central extraction duct. We return the filtered air to the workspace or ensure that part of the filtered air is recovered.

Area extraction in the automotive industry

We frequently install room-wide extraction systems in welding shops handling large welded assemblies. Welding fumes are captured beneath the ceiling via a network of extraction ductwork. In most cases, the extraction ductwork is positioned above the overhead cranes so as not to restrict their operating space. By using general fume extraction, we ensure air filtration and circulation within the welding shop.

Local extraction

By local extraction, we mean extraction at workbenches and in smaller work areas. Here, we design and install extraction systems to capture and extract fumes directly at their source, such as articulated extraction arms, suspended or vertical extraction hoods. Local extraction has the advantage that the extraction process itself captures fumes before they reach the worker’s breathing zone, thereby protecting their health.

Circulation of filtered air

For our applications, we use CARM GH-type filtration units, equipped with automatic regeneration of the filter media using counter-flow compressed air. For the filtration system in the welding shop, we declare a residual TZL emission level of less than 0.25 mg/m³. The filtered air can be recirculated back into the workshop, thereby saving on heating costs.

Smart extraction flow control

In the automotive industry, we supply extraction systems predominantly fitted with smart control. The filtration system, in conjunction with a frequency converter, automatic dampers, a control system and sensors, regulates the extraction capacity in line with the operation of the production technology. The filtration system starts and stops automatically. By installing intelligent control, we help our clients save on electricity costs whilst increasing the reliability of the equipment and the service life of individual system components.

Costs of replacing the filter media

We design and supply our systems so as not to burden clients with high operating costs for the filtration system. They utilise smooth filter sleeves made from microporous filter fabric. The filter sleeves contain no fillers, do not tear and are highly resistant to mechanical stress. For applications in welding shops, we guarantee a service life of at least 20,000 operating hours for the filter media.
