Extraction of explosive dusts

Žilina / Slovakia

CIPRES FILTR BRNO carried out a project involving the installation of extraction systems for production lines manufacturing PMMA sheets (polycarbonate sheets) and dust extraction from crushers at Polycasa Slovakia. The project was carried out on a turnkey basis.

The main objective of the project was to control dust emissions from the production lines in the new production hall and to extract explosive dusts in accordance with current legislation – specifically the ATEX standard.

The following extraction and filtration units were used for this application:

  1. Dust extraction from the production lines – a set of CUMA D-ST filtration units with automatic filter media regeneration in off-line mode – tower cycling (the most efficient regeneration without air ingress)
  2. Dust extraction from crushers – a system comprising three cyclone separators (one for each crusher) plus a central CUMA D-ST filtration unit, which ensures the filtration of residual dust at the cyclone outlets.

To enable further processing of the dust, collection containers with bottom discharge are fitted beneath the filtration units, allowing for further handling in accordance with the customer’s requirements.

The use of JET filters (filters regenerated by pulses of compressed air) was deliberately avoided for this application, given the specific properties of the material being extracted and the experience gained in this field.

The outcome of this project is the end customer’s complete satisfaction and the trust gained for the future implementation of non-standard solutions.
